Every Ingredient in Our Scented Jars, Explained

Most candle brands list two or three vague words on the label and call it transparency. "Wax. Fragrance. Wick." That's not really an explanation — it's the bare minimum required to sell the product. We think you deserve more than the minimum, especially when it's something you're burning in your own home.

So here's every component of a Lumière Roots scented jar, explained plainly — no vague language, nothing left for you to guess at.

The Wax: 100% Pure Beeswax

Every scented jar starts with the same base as our unscented pillars and tapers — 100% pure, farm-sourced Himalayan beeswax. No paraffin blended in to cut cost, no soy filler, no "beeswax blend" language doing quiet work on the label. Just beeswax.

This wax is sourced from individual beekeepers in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, where bees feed on litchi field nectar between April and June — which is part of why our wax's natural colour shifts slightly from batch to batch, the way raw honey does. The wax arrives already purified once by the beekeepers, still carrying some natural propolis, and goes through a final purification at our studio before it's melted and poured.

The Fragrance: IFRA-Certified, Phthalate- and Paraben-Free Oils

The scent in every jar comes from fragrance oils formulated to IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards — the global body that sets ingredient-level safety limits for fragrance materials used in candles and other everyday products. We specifically source oils free from phthalates and parabens, two additive categories common in cheaper, unregulated fragrance blends, and we exclude them regardless of whether a given ingredient is currently restricted.

Fragrancing pure beeswax is genuinely harder than fragrancing paraffin, which is part of why so many "beeswax" candles quietly aren't. We test fragrance concentration specifically against our beeswax base — not a generic wax profile — so the scent works with the wax's own natural honey note instead of masking it entirely.

The Wick: Cotton (Grey Hemp Cotton in Select Lines)

Our wicks are cotton-based — plain cotton in some SKUs, grey hemp cotton in others. We don't use metal-core or lead-core wicks, which have raised health concerns in the candle industry and are banned in a number of markets. A cotton wick, properly sized and trimmed, burns cleanly and predictably alongside a beeswax base.

The Vessel: Amber Glass Jar

Our scented jars are poured into minimalist amber glass — chosen for both its look and its function, since darker glass helps protect fragrance oils from light degradation over the candle's shelf life before it's burned. It's reusable once the candle is finished, not designed to be thrown away after one product's life.

What's Deliberately Not in the Jar

Transparency also means being clear about exclusions:

• No paraffin — not even as a small percentage to cut cost, which is a common industry shortcut we don't take
• No soy filler — the wax is 100% beeswax, not a beeswax-soy blend
• No phthalates or parabens — excluded from every fragrance oil we source
• No metal-core wicks — cotton only
